Charlotte Beatty

Charlotte Beatty is a multidisciplinary researcher and designer working at the intersection of human behavior, product innovation, and business strategy. 

Her work is grounded in a dual foundation in design and business (M.A., Maryland Institute College of Art | M.B.A., Johns Hopkins Carey Business School), with academic training in social and medical anthropology (B.A., Boston University). She leads human-centered, mixed-methods research and co-design to improve experiences, products, systems, and strategy for leading technology and social impact organizations. 

Charlotte is driven by imagining futures, centering delight, and approaching data and design with an intersectional lens. She is based in Brooklyn, NY.

UX Researcher | Fluent Research

New York, New York

  • Lead end-to-end UX research strategy and insights delivery for B2B clients across technology, digital media, education, and e-commerce sectors, shaping product development and user experience.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, engineering, and research teams to translate findings into design and strategy decisions.

  • Conduct qualitative research design, implementation, and analysis in a variety of industry sectors and consumer segments, including education, culture, technology, media, youth culture, and family safety and development. 

  • Leverage mixed research methods including user experience/critical user journeys, product/concept testing, impact assessments, social analysis, design thinking, and design strategy.

  • Director of Design Strategy for JHU/MICA’s chapter of Design for America

  • Capstone on emergent practices in design strategy presented a product concept for a digitally based archival system for creative work and knowledge system management.

B.A. in Sociocultural Anthropology | Boston University

  • Undergraduate work focused on sociocultural and medical anthropology, with focuses on emotions, space, migration, illness and recovery narratives, political mobilizations, postwar temporalities, memorial construction, ecological anthropology, agency and structural violence.

  • Successfully defended an honors thesis on local social mobilization efforts in Boston that presented how anti-abortion organizers leveraged narrative storytelling and identity construction to organize for political action. Self-designed and self-directed ethnographic research, analysis, and writing was conducted over the course of two years. Advised by Dr. Merav Shohet.

Honors and Awards

2022 Core Journal Essay Award

Received for “Constructing the Virtual Enemy”, which examines the anthropology of expressing emotions in online political environments. Awarded for exemplary thought and expression in student writing by the BU College of Arts and Sciences, published in Issue 31 of The Journal of the Core Curriculum.

Ellen Paradise Fisher Activism in Action Honoree

Awarded for dedication to reproductive freedom, justice, and access on the campus of Boston University, as exemplified through initiatives as co-president BU Students for Reproductive Freedom, namely the installment of an emergency contraceptive vending machine on the university’s campus. The Ellen Paradise Fisher Activism in Action Award is given annually by Reproductive Equity Now (REN) to a young person who demonstrates emerging leadership in the fight for reproductive freedom.
